Did you happen to see more people than usual zipping around South Miami this weekend on a scooter?
Electric Scooter Fleet Arrives in South Miami
This past Friday, just in time for a holiday launch, the Bird Fleet hit the SoMi streets.
The City of South Miami is thrilled to be the newest member of a global community of over 350 cities — and growing at lightning speed — to provide this green transportation option to its residents and visitors.
Convenient and low-cost, electric scooters will make our home even more livable and enjoyable by reducing car use, thereby improving traffic and noise conditions. All while reducing our collective carbon footprint by reducing gas-powered vehicle use. And yes, Bird uses green energy to charge its fleet!
And, of course, scooters are a super fun way to get around.
Easy As 1-2-3, For Real
→ Download the Bird Rides app here or in your App Store
→ Read the 3-step instructions
→ And fly away…
→ Mind the etiquette and safety rules!
Bird was founded in 2017 to bring this affordable, public greentransportation to cities across the world. It’s been an instant hit in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. And there are even more affordable rates for those who qualify for the special discount plan.
Fun Fact! Bird was the first micro-mobility signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, an initiative encouraging companies worldwide to align with universal principles regarding human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption.
Ready to take off? Did you try it out on the debut weekend? Let me know and send me your pics to share here and on socials!
If You’re Thinking “Green, yes. Scooter, no…”
I get it. We’re not all scooter people. If you’re totally into the eco-friendly rides, but not so much into riding a scooter around town, check out the FREE SoMi Rideshare Trolley that I sponsor for all your in-town excursions. It’s been a big hit!
I’m so proud of our city and honored to be a part of this important mission.
Climb aboard, have some fun, and be part of the solution!
Good to Know: Bird’s operations became entirely carbon neutral in 2020 (3rd-party verified) with the help of 3Degrees. Bird and The City of South Miami are jointly committed to further reducing carbon emissions and environmental impact by consistently evolving sustainability policies and practices.
