The ‘less is more’ adage might be the new ‘style’ in green conscious Pinecrest. Council members are considering changes that could limit future constructions of the McMansion in the village.
The average size of new built homes in Pinecrest is around 8,500 square feet, but numerous homes in the last few years are as large as 16,000 to 20,000.
Mayor Cindy Lerner said the council needs to act to preserve the village’s character, “We value green space. With these larger homes, we’ve lost a lot of green space and now we’re realizing the adverse impact of these buildings on the environment.”
The council decided Tuesday not to immediately approve a set of such rules, instead opting to get more input from contractors and village residents.
Whatever the outcome, we hope the right green balance is maintained.
